Noteworthy designs from Holly Hunt, Lawson Fenning for CB2 and more

2022.05.31

May has officially arrived and with it comes a veritable range of summer-ready releases to swoon over. From trippy snail-inspired abaca rugs to outdoor-friendly love seats crafted from recycled ocean plastic, here are some of the most memorable launches from the past week.

Los Angeles–based design brand Lawson Fenning’s latest collaboration with CB2 is a lesson in form and materiality. The clean-lined collection boasts more than 50 architectural pieces fabricated with organic materials, including a travertine-topped coffee table with tubular legs and demilune dining chairs forged from FSC-certified American black walnut wood.

Holly Hunt tapped Christian and Heidi Batteau of Arkansas-based atelier Assemblage for an outdoor-friendly collaboration. Part of the Blurred Lines series, the capsule collection translates the duo’s signature wallpaper designs into weatherproof performance fabrics, including the geometric Witter, the textured Right Angle and the zigzagging Pyrenees.

Patterson Flynn unveiled its latest creations with designer Adam Charlap Hyman. The whimsical assortment spans six handcoiled abaca rug designs with surrealist motifs, such as the swirling, snail-esque Caracol and the sperm whale–inspired Bellena.

The Cartelier released its inaugural collection, called A Prelude to Decadence. The series features eight charismatic wallpaper and textile patterns illustrated by founder Carly Kuhn, including the sleek yet simple Dainty Stripe and Putting My Eyes On, a design reminiscent of retro beauty advertisements.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin–based brand Graff premiered a lavish line of bathroom fixtures called Topaz. The eye-catching collection draws inspiration from the avant-garde designs of the art deco movement and includes everything from a hexagonal showerhead finished in 24-karat gold to brushed-brass faucet sets with jewel-shaped handles.

Japanese textile company Hosoo debuted Heritage Nova, a sumptuous line of fabrics. Crafted by artisans in Kyoto using centuries-old 3D techniques, the tactile collection offers 12 upholstery designs composed of a blend of hemp and silk, such as the rhythmic wavy-lined Flux and the metallic-speckled Repose.

Designer Alex Lithgow introduced a fashionable furniture collection to celebrate his newly launched New York design gallery and showroom, Otras Formas. The streamlined selection offers six pieces punctuated with organic materials and defined by sculptural silhouettes, including a footed lounge chair with a rounded walnut frame named Daikanyama and a curvy low-slung daybed with an asymmetrical wood base dubbed Retiro.
