At the weekend retreat of brothers Antonio and Ignacio Saorin Lopez de Ayala, on the Spanish island of Ibiza, a guest bedroom—nicknamed "the Captain's Room"—is carved out of the rocky bluff on which the main house sits, and opens onto a private terrace. A canopy of Indian mosquito netting hangs over the bed; the wood floor is painted white.

For her family's house in Darien, Connecticut, textile designerSusan Harris decorated a guest room with a vintage French rattan bureau, a Swedish wool rug, and ceramic lamps. The cotton-linen fabrics for the headboard, bedcover, bed skirt, and pillow shams are by Harris's firm, SeaCloth.
