Table linens sales a bright spot for home

Consumers are emphasizing the table when they decorate, according to data from The NPD Group’s Consumer Tracking Service.

In the 12 months ending January 2014, table linens were a bright spot among a home fashions market that declined 2% compared to the same period a year ago. Dollar sales of table linens were up 14% over the previous 12 months, while bed covers were up 4%.

“The art of accessorizing has moved beyond the runway, and into our homes. It’s about bringing freshness to a table, bed, or bathroom that may have been feeling stale, without spending a fortune to redecorate,” said Debra Mednick, executive director and home industry analyst.
