Ikea sets Sept. 30 opening for St. Louis store

Home furnishing powerhouse Ikea has set a Sept. 30 opening date for its 380,000-square-foot store here.

The store will be the Top 100 company’s 41st in the United States and first in Missouri. Known for its extensive giveaways and festivities at grand openings, the retailer said customers can start lining up 48 hours in advance of the opening.

In a release, store manager John Achillea said Ikea is “thrilled by the construction progress,” and is focusing on training 300 employees for the store, which is being built on a 21-acre parcel along Interstate 64 at Vandeventer Avenue.

Atop the new building will be Missouri’s largest rooftop solar array, “consistent with the Ikea renewable energy presence at 90% of its U.S. locations,” the retailer said.
